It was just a joke in response to the "tyrannical digital overlords" comment

If you think anyone is abusing their "power", report it, and if you're right we'll soon be demoted.

Don't worry, he's promised to be a good boy. And he knows that he has to keep it clean.

DHaha yea, I know, all in good fun. :p

I'm sure all new positions will be honorably filled :D

Do you mean in "Events"? Maybe you clicked on "Photos" in the top right under "Library". Click on "Events" and see if everything is organized the way it was before...

I don't have any horror stories, but at the end of this year I am going to drop two of the sites I maintain because of an extremely annoying woman. I do a site for her, and an association she is involved with plus many other sites for local governments, like townships.

All of my clients are easy to work with and give me periodic things to update, fix or add. That's never a problem for me since they're paying for it. But this woman sends me things nearly everyday to do, wanting to change font sizes, add giant gaudy stars and attention grabbers and the like. She's one of those people who uses 15 question marks or other punctuation in her emails to express her tone or meaning. Oftentimes she want the exact same information that is on one page to be on another page, "just in case people don't click on the first page." I keep telling her that it is redundant to do so and people aren't as dumb as you think they are. Essentially she is a micromanager of her site and she also has authority over the association site I maintain too. So I get the same stuff from her for that one too.

But wait! There's more! She also feels the need to send things to me for another site she has no business giving input towards (it's an association site her husband belongs to!) and offers her opinion to change things there too. This one really drives me nuts. She sent some changes to me a few months ago and CC'd the person with authority over this site. I ignored her request and subsequently so did the other guy. Then last week she FW's it to me again with giant font and multiple question marks wanting to know why I didn't do anything with it. I replied back saying that I was waiting for "Hank" to authorize it. So she fires an email off to him and I demanding that he authorize me to make the changes. Wouldn't you know it, he ignored her again! ;) I told the associations president and he is going to put a stop to her trying to mess with his site.

But as I said, I am dropping her site and her association site at the end of the year. I don't need her money that bad. Living headache free and a bit lighter in the wallet is OK with me.

I'd love to see Apple displace Google Maps on their iOS devices. That would be a major blow to Google and a major win for Apple and their iAd product. The more you tie maps into adverts the more personalized those adverts become. The more successful marketing campaigns. Apple can take iAds to the next level.

    Maps with iAds intrusions?

I'm glad some fans aren't calling the shots here...

Which is kind of hard on such a restricted and limited platform. There would be more useful software for the iPad if it ran a 'real' operating system like Mac OS X -- meaning full file system access and not being tied into ONE App Store with arbitrary rules for what a program is allowed to do.

    Computing is changing.

The tech at the Cingular store told me it would be next year before 5 will appear. Not sure how reliable that is or where he got his info. I asked him how sure of that he was. He stated he was very sure.

Does he still think he works for "Cingular"? Sounds like the last guy to get any memo ;)

Oh, I didn't know that. On which ones exactly?
I was thinking that only G5s had it enabled automatically.

I don't know exactly, but on my G4 Digital Audio it's enabled by default.
This page (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/MDD_CHUD_feedback.html#storytop) has information about it in MDDs.

Can anyone recommend any software for converting vinyl records to digital format?

I have a turntable and usb pre-amp, I am looking for something user friendly with a decent quality file output option. All the reviews I have read and forum searches I have made are turning up old results, is there nothing new about?

I just got iMsafe. It backs up to an iPod, Firewire drive etc and it has been excellent. It just seems really good. Looks nice, dead simple, works well. And that's it.

    Bit like macs, s'pose :)

12 petabytes? That doesn't seem like too much, actually. that's 1GB of storage for 12 million customers

that's what I'm thinking... to support a iTunes cloud and new mobileme services, I would expect exabytes... Doesn't seem that big of an order.

Most likely not but you should probably use OEM cables and such instead.

I think he meant, that besides the standard edition, there will also be a model with iChat itegrated. BTW, iChat Mobile is an old name. I saw it on this board several months ago.

My Siemens MC60 is getting pretty old. I really hope they release it before February 9th (my birthday:D ).

Apple should just roll their own.

They have the power, the talent, the size, and certainly the scale, to go their own way with an excellent chance of success.

The more things they do in-house, the better. It'll only enhance the Apple ecosystem and grow it.

Is this always the best approach? Unless Apple intends to invent something beyond the wheel, why just invent the wheel all over again? The duplication of effort doesnt sound very cost effective. And for good or ill, we do operate in a Neo-Liberal economy where its most cost effective to source services and products from others. All the same I can understand the Google thing, but I dont think the articles distance itself from Google language is the best choice of words. Reduce dependency on Google would be more accurate. Anyway, I would have to think that Apples plan is to move beyond the wheel. I wonder what that will look like?

I think the consensus is that Apple abandoned the idea of building a phone completely from the ground up, which was their original idea. The question is *what* exactly they abandoned. At some level it makes sense for them to use Symbian or some other existing OS in order to get the benefit of 3rd party app availability.

Then again, that rather un-Apple like, since I would think Apple would want to have total control over the interface. Maybe Apple *will* come up with a real-time "OS X Lite" operating system, and the 3rd party apps will have to be Java apps, basically. If Apple makes sure that Java performs well on the iPhone then that would be their best strategy...

I think that rumor that Apple abandoned the idea of building a phone completely from the ground up is really old and probably not true. They've had a long time to work on this now...

Was it a USB wall charger? iPods 4th gen (including photo), 1st gen minis and older require a FireWire charger to get through that 'first reboot'. Either use a FireWire charger or cable, or put it in an old speaker dock that charges through FireWire.
