If I'm not mistaken, those are Georgetown Cupcakes!

    Red Velvet... yumm

Oh my days I've had these. My friend had them shipped up to him from home to school before Winter Break and let me share in the goodness. I'm a believer.

Apple should quit wasting time trying to block jailbreak and work on adding features that other phones have had for many years and that users have been screaming for since the iPhone 1 was released.

Yep Bluetooth filetransfer for contacts and photos would be great. Well music too but
I see copyright concerns. But for your own
    Photos and contacts ?

Is there a reason why so many use Avid over FCP?
There are a number of reasons ranging from they have no compelling reason to switch away from the tool they are most comfortable with to their workflow requires things that Avid does better than FCP to they've already invested a lot of money in an Avid workflow. Off the top of my head I'd give Avid the nod for things like better multi-user environment, better shared storage solution, better media management, better multi-camera editing, better format support (AMA), better handling of mixed media timelines, and, for lack of a better term, a more refined product in terms of solely editing.

Does that mean Avid is perfect? No, far from it. Does that mean FCP is horrible in the categories I mentioned, no not necessarily (although FCP is really lacking in multi-user environments). A big reason FCP became so popular though is because it could do the majority of what Avid could do for much, much less (like $60,000 or more less back in the day). Obviously the price difference is much less now (I think Media Composer software goes for $2000 or $2500) but for many of FCP's core users that's still a huge difference.

Looks great, but as my main email account is not a .mac account and POP doesn't really do it for me, I'll only use it if they provide IMAP access.

The only real reason that I use .mac are its backup and synchronization features which are hardly worth paying $99 a year for. .mac still needs to come a long way to stay competitive and this is reasonable start, but a new interface is only that - a new interface. More space, more features and better functionality are the only way .mac will come out of the dark ages and join the rest of Apple's innovative, first-class products.

    The keynote was terrible.

It's called "MacWorld" yet there was nothing in there about the mac. Just this little toy that dosn't really interest me that much called the "iPhone" and the "Apple TV".

I completely agree. I'm really wanting them to put up the video stream of the keynote so I can see if MacRumors had it right when they put this on the live coverage feed:

9:18 am we're only talking about the mac today

If Steve really said that, it's a flat out LIE. Nothing was about the Mac, except for devices that can interact with them. When I saw that, I just knew leopard and speed bumped Macs were just moments away.

Why does it take a media storm for Apple to open up on an issue ? It would be so much better if they more forthcoming and frank before an issue snowballs.

But what exactly is your response to the fact that iOS as a platform has more users - therefore is more enticing to developers? And that Android is just a free OS that's modified and put on to phone handsets, mostly HORRID handsets, and many that can't even run an app? You're defending a Linux kernel like it's some breakthrough. Newsflash - it's not.

Most of the phones running android within the last year and a half can run 90% of the apps available on the Market. And most of the handsets are great for their use, rather it be budget smartphone: Optimus 1 family or highend: Droid line or Keyboard: G2 by htc. Developers are flocking to android because it is growing faster then iOS.

If it comes in the tired "Nokia" candybar design, I won't be purchasing it. I absolutely detest candybar designs because I've never had decent reception from any of the models I've had (whether by Nokia or SonyEricsson, for example) regardless of GSM or CDMA support. It wasn't until I acquired my current Motorola RAZR (with T-Mobile) that I've had better reception than what I used to have with the analog Motorola cell phones from the early 90s with CellularOne.

So unless its a flip phone, The Lynxpro ain't a goin' to buy it. But if Apple makes it like a RAZR but with more iTunes/iCal/iSync/iChat capabilities and a 3 megapixel camera, I'll buy one.

While I don't use the SideKick, I think it would be in Apple's best interest to buy Danger and "Apple up" the design. The SideKick is very popular, and it would also help Apple if they were to acquire the company and switch the SideKick's browser over to Safari since the existing Danger browser does account for 1% to 2% of all net surfing currently, and Safari could use an easy increase in usage if for no other reason to prompt various holdout websites to make their designs more standards compliant and reduce the Microsoft lock-in.

I also think Apple should bring out their own branded flash media (which would complement the iPhone or a Danger SideKick acquisition). Its time they started bringing the hurt to SanDisk's native market, and they could do that simply by bundling some free iTunes downloads with the flash products.

The key area of your problem is highlighted in red.

Based on what? YOUR opinion? It's a vanity issue. His/her email address is given on business cards, membership directories, etc. and so a matter of self-expression. His/hers is a valid opinion, as yours is as well.

Do people really get excited about this? I've never owned an iPhone, as I'm loyal to Verizon and at this point am waiting for the iP5, but I think black looks farrrrrrrrr better than the white model.

A person can buy a movie from iTunes and play it on as many iPODS they want (how many does a single household actually have?) or a person can just get netflix, request the movie, rip it, put it on his OR her iPOD, and watch it as many times as he or she wants.

I WOULD NEVER DO THAT, but I know people that would think about it...

apple says no, and i can confirm this on my new 2nd gen shuffle. there is a slight gap.

how big is a "slight" gap? well I guess I won't be getting one then because I don't see why I should buy an ipod that can't play back albums properly! my first gen shuffle was completely dead for the past two months until last week when the new utility brought it back, so I can't justify a new shuffle and will probably end up eventually getting one of the nanos (wish the 8GB one came in different colours including the project red version). And my first gen 10GB scroll wheel iPod is still working fine 4 1/2 years after I got it!

I have been working with Windows in a networked environment since the Lan Manager days (before NT 3.51)

Back in the 1990s, NT was a good choice for small to medium-sized businesses. It was easy to deploy, supported a lot of software, and was less expensive than Novell (generally). Apple back then was proprietary, difficult to deploy in large environments, and few apps ran on Macs.

    Things have changed ...

If you are using GPOs to deploy legacy or proprietary applications to your users, you better get with the times. This is and EVERYTHING in the enterprise should be web-enabled (database portals, CRM software, etc.). GPOs, as I have said earlier, are generally used to lock down users and to plug the many security holes in Windows networks, or they are used to deploy old crappy apps that can't be reached through a browser.

I am sitting in front of a Mac right now at work. I have MS Office loaded on it for convenience, and I use a number of web enabled applications: Cisco utilities (UCM Manager, ASDM) SolarWinds, Norton Security Suite, and I reach my databases through a SSL proxy and specific web servers on the back-end.

My Mac is connected to AD throught the Directory Utility. My Mac can do native SMB file sharing if needed.

I could use a Ubuntu box if I wanted! Where in this environment (which is a pretty big one) am I REQUIRED to use a Windows machine? Why not get rid of the GPOs, the security sweeps, the login scripts, etc. altogether? This is 1990s crap!

Apple completely overhauled their OS when they went to OSX: this is 21st century technology. Microsoft stuck with the old 32bit architecture that included a registry and lots of legacy code. Windows 7 is a bunch of ginger-bread running on old code. Even Linux blows it away.

The days of the old tower running Windows sitting on the office desk are going away. We are moving to cloud computing, intelligent tablets (i.e. the iPad) and integrated communications (voice, video, and data).

Now Apple's support of enterprise customers is another issue, and it does concern me that they discontinued the Xserve. I guess we will have to see how that all plays out.

But this idea of "can't be done! the world only runs on windows!" is nonsense.

...and if he is, is there the frightening possibility that if he says it for long enough, the iPhone rumour will come true.

That'll be in 2021, when Apple, the media division of Packard-Dell, rebrands a Sony-Ericsson-Realnetworks Q-380Z 6th-gen personal communicator and sells it as the "iPhone Yahoogolous."

Sorry, that probably needs some explanation. In much the same way as "Turbo" was in the '80s, and "Power" was in the '90s, and "Extreme" is in the 2000's, "Yahoogolous" is the marketing-word of 2021. Nothing to do with the .com that took over Microsoft in 2015 though.

Except iOS is not a exclusively a smartphone OS. Again, if you are a developer, the metric that matters is how many devices are using the particular platform.

iOS for iphone is an exclusive smartphone OS. Or are you telling me that ipod touch and ipad run the same exact OS?

Why would you ever make a comparison like that? That's like comparing "laptop OS" versus "desktop OS". They're the same thing. Doesn't make a difference what device it's on, it's still the same OS. Is is that tough for you to understand?

Laptops and desktops run the same exact OS. There are no apps that are made specifically for a laptop or desktop. There are iphone apps that wont run on an ipod touch. There are ipad apps that wont run on an ipod touch or an iphone. If they were the same OS then that wouldnt happen.

Give me ONE compelling reason why you would ever compare just the phones segment.

    Because it's common sense.

I wonder how many of these posts are trolls? I haven't had any issues whatsoever with 4.3.1. I also didn't have any problems with 4.3; battery life has been absolutely stellar and call performance actually improved in 4.3.1.

The timing of all these "bitching" posts just seems suspicious.
